About Iron Vein

Iron Vein Steel Sculpture is the result of the collaboration between designer makers Victoria Govan and Richard Warner. After graduating from Dartington College of the Arts in 1994 they set up their workshop near Welshpool in 1995. Their point of origin was cutting and welding reclaimed steel which they felt had an intrinsic beauty and value which went beyond its mere industrial function, and had been discarded thoughtlessly at great ecological expense. What they have since come to understand is that steel is in fact one of the most sustainable materials it is possible to use, and they have developed their practice and grown their technical skill set to include traditional blacksmithing at one extreme, and state-of-the-art computer programming, for laser and water cut design work, at the other. They create beautiful sculptural work for inside and out; stylish and contemporary, but simplistic and thoughtful. Pieces exclusively for exterior siting are hot dip zinc galvanised to make them impermeable to the weather. The zinc chemically reacts with the steel to create a surface the elements can`t penetrate. Our desire is to create sculpture which not only complements and enhances the landscape into which it is placed but also provokes thought and contemplation, pleasing the mind as well as the eye. Gardens do not have to be seen as a haven of the traditional, they can express and echo states of mind and allow the imagination to roam free.

Artist Statement of Iron Vein

Iron Vein have chosen metal as their medium to create exterior pieces that are inspired by and become part of the natural landscape.

Their desire is to create furniture and sculpture which not only complements and enhances the landscape into which it is placed but also provokes thought and contemplation, pleasing the mind as well as the eye.

Gardens do not have to be seen as a haven of the traditional, they can express and echo states of mind and allow the imagination to roam free.

The work of Iron Vein resonates as it is created through traditional blacksmithing methods, yet the resultant forms are vibrant, energetic and contemporary.

Customer comment on 'Brasil - Chess (Corporate Commission of an entire edition)' by Plamen Dimitrov
Although it seemed a daunting project to commission a sculpture on the internet with a tight deadline, Plamen Dimitrov in Bulgaria made it as easy as possible for me in Brazil by producing a series of little clay sketches after each email and sending photos it seemed by return. He worked round the clock and was incredibly intuitive with his understanding of what I wanted. This was despite an 8 hour time difference and having poor English as our common language. He w...
